Michael Jackson died on 25th June 2009.
マイケル・ジャクソンが2009年6月25日に亡くなりました。
To be honest, I didn't know about him very much.
正直なところ、私は彼についてあまりよく知りませんでした。
All I knew about him was that he was a great musician and composed a famous song named "We are the world".
私が彼について知っていたのは、彼が偉大なミュージシャンであり、「We are the world」という有名な歌を作曲したということだけでした。
I wanted to listen to that song, so I watched the video on YouTube.
私は、その歌が聞きたくなったので、YouTubeでそのビデオを見ました。
The song moved me deeply and I watched the video over and over again.
その歌は、再び私を深く感動させました。そして、何度も何度もそのビデオを見ました。
While listening to the song, I looked into the song on Wikipedia.
歌を聴いている間、私はウィキペディアで、その曲について調べました。
According to it, the sales of the song were about 63 million dollars and all royalties were contributed.
それによると、歌の売上は約6300万ドルで、すべての印税は寄付されました。
At the moment, are there any charity activities like that?
現在、そのようなチャリティー活動がありますか？
If so, I want to know.
もしあるなら、知りたいです。

A Long Way to Go

Today, I just kept on making a material for an orientation of the electronic chart I use in my workplace.
今日、私は、職場で使っている電子カルテのオリエンテーションに使う資料を作り続けていました。
There used to be some nurses who could teach how to use the electronic chart, but at the moment, I am the only nurse who can do it.
電子カルテの使い方を教えることができる看護師が何人かいましたが、現在は、私しかいません。
So I need to make the material to lighten my load.
それで、私は自分の負担を減らすために資料を作る必要があります。
I think that I need to teach my co-workers on how they should teach others.
私は、同僚にその使い方を教える方法を教える必要があると思います。
But my co-workers rely on me for the electronic chart because I'm good at computers.
しかし、私がパソコンに強いので、同僚たちは電子カルテのことを任せます。
For the time being, I have to consider how I can make my co-workers think that they need to learn it.
とりあえず、私は、同僚がそれを学ばなければと思うようにする方法を考えなければなりません。
That seems to be a long way to go.
遠い道のりです。

My Daily Pleasure

My daily pleasure is to watch and feed little fish I have been taking care of.
私の日々の楽しみは、私が世話をしている魚を観察して、餌をあげることです。
I got the fish from my mother.
その魚は、母親からもらいました。
My mother gave them to my daughter, but she didn't show much interest in them.
母は、その魚を私の娘にあげたのですが、娘はあまり興味を示しませんでした。
Instead, I became fond of them.
その代わり、私がその魚を好きになりました。
They were very small when they came to my house.
魚が我が家に来たとき、とても小さかったです。
But they've grown up now.
しかし、現在、魚は成長しました。
I need to buy a new bigger water tank now.
新しい大きな水槽を買う必要があります。

How Regrettable!

I'm a nurse, so my working time is irregular.
私は看護師なので、勤務時間が不規則です。
We have to work regardless of public holidays or weekends.
私たちは、祝日や週末でも働かなければなりません。
But almost all hospitals in Japan stop accepting outpatients and surgical operations except for emergency patients on weekend.
しかし、日本のほぼ全ての病院は、週末は、緊急の患者を除いて、外来患者の受け入れや手術を行いません。
So the number of medical staff who work on weekend is less than weekdays.
そのため、週末に働く医療スタッフは、平日よりも少ないです。
Nevertheless, I have to work on every weekend this month.
それにも関わらず、私は今月、すべての週末に働かなければなりません。
It means that I have no holidays on Saturday and Sunday.
つまり、土曜日にも日曜日にも休みが全くないということです。
For example, I have to work from tonight to tomorrow’s morning.
例えば、私は今夜から明日の朝まで働かなければなりません。
Next weekend, both Saturday and Sunday are day shifts.
来週末、土曜日も日曜日も日勤です。
I can't play tennis during this month, because the tennis club I belong to is held only on Sunday.
私が所属するテニスクラブは日曜日だけに活動しているので、私は今月中、テニスをすることができません。
How regrettable!

The Championships, Wimbledon 2009

The final match of The Wimbledon Championships will take place tonight.
今夜、ウィンブルドン選手権の決勝戦が開催されます。
I had been looking forward to this match.
私は、この試合を楽しみにしていました。
I like Roger Federer best.
私は、ロジャー・フェデラーが最も好きです。
Recently, Rafael Nadal has been stronger than Roger Federer.
最近、ラファエル・ナダルは、ロジャー・フェデラーよりも強いです。
But I prefer the tennis style of Roger Federer.
しかし、私はロジャー・フェデラーのテニススタイルの方が好きです。
His performance is really incredible.
彼のパフォーマンスは、本当にすばらしいです。
I guess that Roger Federer will win the match.
私は、試合にロジャー・フェデラーが勝つと思います。
By the way, this match is not Federer versus Nadal because Nadal couldn't take part in this championship due to an injury.
ちなみに、ナダルがケガで欠場しているので、この試合はフェデラー対ナダルではありません。

Weeding

Today, I weeded the carpark.
今日、私は駐車場の雑草を抜きました。
My parking is almost covered with concrete, but there are some grounds which plant Ophiopogon japonicus in.
私の駐車場は、ほとんどがコンクリートで舗装されていますが、タマリュウを植えるために少し土の部分があります。
The weed has been growing there.
雑草は、そこに生えます。
I don't want to let the Ophiopogon japonicus wither, so I can't use weed killers.
タマリュウを枯らしたくないので、除草剤は使えません。
Due to a lack of an alternative, I need to weed.
仕方がないので、私は草を抜く必要があります。
I have a bad back, so weeding is hard work.
私は腰が悪いので、草取りは楽ではありません。

Lovely Wishes

Today is the 7th of July.
今日は7月7日です。
It is a special day when the Star Festival takes place.
Star Festivalが開催される特別な日です。
The festival is called 七夕(tanabata) in Japan.
日本では、七夕と呼ばれています。
Children in Japan write their wish on strips of fancy paper.
日本の子どもたちは、短冊に彼らの願いを書きます。
And these papers are fixed on bamboo grasses.
そして、それらの短冊を笹に飾り付けます。
My daughter wrote her wishes at a nursery.
私の娘も、託児所で願い事を書きました。
Of course, she can't write her wishes by herself, so her mother wrote instead of her.
もちろん、彼女は自分で願いを書くことができないので、母親が彼女に代わりに書きました。
I looked at her wishes.
私は彼女の願いを見ました。
Her wishes were "I want to get along well with my friends." and "I want Anpanman toys."
彼女の願いは「友達と仲良くできますように」と「アンパンマンのおもちゃが欲しい」でした。
These are lovely wishes.
かわいらしい願いです。

A Lucky Draw

I like Chinese noodle soup, so I often eat it, particularly for lunch.
私はラーメンが好きで、特に昼食に、それをよく食べます。
As usual, my wife cooked noodles for me today.
いつものように、今日も妻が私にラーメンを作ってくれました。
Then, she approached me and said, "Look at this."
そのとき、彼女が寄ってきて、「これを見て」と言いました。
She showed me a small paper.
彼女は小さな紙を見せました。
For some time, I couldn't understand what she wanted to say.
しばらくの間、私は妻が何を言いたいのか分かりませんでした。
She explained that the paper is a voucher.
彼女は、紙が引換券だと説明してくました。
I finally understood that the paper said we can get two melons free.
私は最終的に、その紙に私たちが無料でメロンを2個もらえると書いてあると分かりました。
We didn't even know of such a privilege.
私たちはそのような特典があるとは知りませんでした。
I'm looking forward to the melons.
メロンを楽しみにしています。

Sunflowers

I went to a flower park with my friends today to take photographs of sunflowers.
今日、ヒマワリの写真を撮りに友達と花ひろばへ行きました。
According to the weather forecast, today was supposed to be rainy.
天気予報によると、今日は雨になるはずでした。
However, in fact, it was fine weather.
ところが、実際は良い天気でした。
This was the third time we went to take photographs of sunflowers.
ヒマワリの写真を撮りに行くのは、今回で3回目です。
We like taking photographs of sunflowers because they make a good contrast and look attractive.
ヒマワリは良いコントラストを作って映えるので、私たちはヒマワリの写真を撮るのが好きです。
This time, we could cut and take away 10 flowers per person.
今回、私たちは1人につき10本の花を切り取って、持ち帰ることができました。
So we cut some flowers and gave them to my daughter.
そこで、私たちは何本か花を切って、私の娘にあげました。
She was so cute when she held them in her arms.
彼女が花を抱いたとき、とても可愛かったです。

I went to a photo studio with my family today.
私は今日、家族とともに写真スタジオへ行きました。
In Japan, we celebrate our children's growth when they become three, five or seven years old.
日本では、子どもが3歳、5歳、7歳になるとき、子どもの成長を祝います。
My daughter will become three years old soon, so we got professional photographers to take photographs of her.
私の娘はもうすぐ3歳になるので、プロの写真家に子どもの写真を撮ってもらいました。
The photographs they took were excellent.
彼らが撮った写真は、素晴らしかったです。
I like taking photographs and have a digital single-lens reflex camera, but the photographs I take cannot compare with the photographs they took.
私は写真を撮るのが好きで、デジタル一眼レフカメラを持っていますが、私が撮る写真は、彼らが撮る写真には敵いません。
I want to show you those photographs but I can't because I haven't received them yet.
私は、その写真を見せたいのですが、今日は受け取ることができなかったので、見せることができません。
Instead, I have put up a photograph I took on this entry.
その代わり、私が撮った写真を載せておきます。
