My daughter takes a midday nap everyday.
Then, she often sleeps in a strange position.
The photograph is of her sleeping in that position.
I don't know why, but she likes sleeping in this position.
When she falls asleep, she lies on her back.
However, she comes to lie prone and raise her hip like this photograph.
What is the advantage of this position?
Today, I have nothing in particular to write about. So I will write about my nickname.
When I was a high school student, I had a pen-pal in Thailand.
I exchanged letters written in English but I couldn't keep in touch with her because it was difficult for me to write letters in English.
Tor is the nickname she gave me.
She said that Tor was the famous actor (musician? I'm not sure) in Thailand.
The other day, I came to know that tor meant a rock on the top of a mountain in English.
Although it seems to be not my image, I love this nickname because I'm seldom nicknamed.
I think I don't have strong individuality, so no one nicknames me.
Anyway, Tor is a special nickname for me and I will treasure this nickname throughout my life.
Spring has come.|
My daughter has been saying "I want to go to a zoo".
However, because it was too cold for her to stay outside for a long time, we couldn't go there.
Now, spring has come and it has been getting warmer.
Moreover, spring is a season when a lot of cherry blossoms are in bloom.
I think spring is the best season to go to a zoo.
Accordingly, we went to Higashiyama Zoo today.
Today is Friday...I mean it is a weekday.
So I had expected that there would not be so many people there.
However, my expectation was too optimistic.
The zoo was very crowded with families.
Anyway, we enjoyed seeing the animals and the cherry blossoms.
My daughter also enjoyed it but she was sometimes scared because she is very cowardly.
For example, when a gorilla knocked on an iron door, when a squirrel ran in front of her rapidly, and when a duck's face approached her face, she was scared.
We spread out a picnic rug and ate a picnic lunch under the beautiful cherry blossoms.
We had a good time.
A Child's Imagination|
The day before yesterday, I asked my daughter what she wants to become in the future.
She answered, "I want to become a giraffe".
I was surprised to hear that and asked her why.
The answer was "Because there are rabbits".
I couldn't grasp her idea but such a child's imagination makes me curious.
Regrettably, it is said that the education in Japan takes away children's imagination.
The other day, when I was waiting for a train on a platform, I encountered a child who asked "Why are there railway tracks here?".
For adults, it's natural that there're railway tracks if we are at a train station.
However, for children, it can be unnatural.
It's very interesting and I want to know how to maintain their strong imagination.
War and Peace|
Today, a long distance ballistic missile or a space satellite was launched from North Korea.
Falling objects from the artificial flying object fell into the Sea of Japan and the Pacific Ocean. Therefore, Japan didn't intercept the falling objects.
North Korea declared that if Japan intercepted their launching object, they would attack Japan. I had been afraid that war against North Korea would break out.
I expect that war won't break out for the time being because Japan didn't intercept anything. However, I am worried about the future actions of North Korea.
I wonder whether they are hoping for peace or not. I hope that our peaceful life will continue forever.
I never want to fight anyone. Wars kill a lot of innocent people and destroy a lot of things including historical sites. As a result, some particular people will gain huge profits and powers.
Wars will provide us with nothing. We must not go to war each other under any circumstances.
An Excellent View From My Study|
I have my study that is next to our living room because whenever I stay home, I sit in front of my personal computer.
Due to structural reasons, my study faces a garden and a park that is across from my house.
There are a lot of cherry trees in the park and I can see them from the window in my study.
At the moment, cherry blossoms are in full bloom.
So, the view from my study is excellent especially when we have fine weather.
I'm glad that I have such a luxurious personal place.
A Tough Job|
Today, I changed the snow tires of my car for normal tires by myself for the first time.
Before, I commissioned a dealer to change them or my father helped me change them.
However, I thought that I had better learn to change tires by myself because I need to pay if I commission the change.
Therefore I bought a tool to help me change tires.
Although the tool was very helpful, changing tires by myself was tougher than I had expected.
After that, I noticed that the sun was going down.
Because the evening sun was really beautiful, I took my camera and went to the park that is next to my house.
As I wrote yesterday, cherry blossoms are in full bloom at present but they have already begun falling.
The life of blossoms is really short.
An Ability to Reform Politics|
Nagoya mayoral election will take place on April 26th.
I'm not a Nagoya citizen but my workplace is in Nagoya.
Maybe it is not only in Japan, candidates tend to be old men.
Generally, they are over-sixties.
I wonder at the fact.
In many companies, all workers retire when they reach the age of 60 or 65, regardless of employee or employer.
However, they usually begin working as assemblymen after the retirement from their previous job.
I think it's quite strange.
I think the reason for their retirement is mostly because they're aging.
They can't work in high spirits like young workers and their brains become atrophied whether they are willing or not.
I mean there is an obvious reason for the need to retire.
If old people can work better or are more quick-witted than young people, old people should work instead of young people.
Of course, that is not common-sense.
Nevertheless, such old people are governing our country and cities.
I can't understand why.
I know that old people have gained ripe experiences and know a lot of things.
However, their thoughts do not always match the present situation and they tend to be lacking in novel ideas.
What we need is a change if we want to improve our quality of life.
It doesn't matter whether they had gained ripe experiences or not because what I demand from them is not a preservation of present politics, but a novel political reform.
I think young people have more abilities than the aged to reform the present depraved politics than old people because they are full of energy and will stay around for a long time from now on.
Vitality of Plants|
I wrote in my past entry that one of my foliage plants had begun to wither.
Several days ago, I found that the parent plant has a new leaf.
I was delighted to find it because I almost gave up trying to revive it.
How amazing the vitality of plants is!
I want plants to give me their vitality.
I'm always tired with the recent busy work.
A Matter of Degree|
I worked all night last night.
So I'm exhausted even though I got about three hours sleep after work.
When I got up, of course, I was in low spirits.
On the other hand, my daughter became more excited than normal when she saw me.
Because the gap between her spirits and my spirits was so wide, I couldn't keep up with her.
She went on a rampage while she was saying something.
Being vigorous is good but within moderation, I think.
I feel groggy...
