I have a digital piano, but I can't play it.
私は電子ピアノを持っていますが、弾くことができません。
The reason I bought the piano is because I want to be able to play the piano and I also want my daughter to feel that playing the piano is fun.
私がピアノを買った理由は、自分が弾けるようになりたいのと、娘にピアノを弾くのが楽しいと感じて欲しいからです。
I practiced playing the piano for a while after I bought it.
私はピアノを買ってからしばらくは練習しました。
However, recently, I don't even touch the piano.
しかし、最近はピアノに触ってさえいません。
I want to attend a piano lesson, but I don't have enough money and time.
ピアノレッスンに通いたいのですが、十分なお金も時間もありません。
I need someone to teach me how to play the piano for free.
誰か無料でピアノの弾き方を教えてくれる人が必要です。
I'm planning to send my daughter to piano lessons, so she may teach me in the future.
娘はピアノレッスンに通わせる予定なので、将来、彼女が教えてくれるかもしれませんが…

A Shy Girl

Today I took part in a summer party of a nursery with my wife and daughter.
今日、私は、妻と娘とともに託児所の夏祭りに参加しました。
I heard that my daughter had been practicing a dance for the party, so I brought a video camera.
娘が祭りに向けて踊りの練習をしていたと聞いたので、ビデオカメラを持っていきました。
The children's dance began.
子どもたちによる踊りが始まりました。
However, far from dancing well, my daughter didn't move at all.
しかし、うまく踊るどころか、私の娘は全く動きませんでした。
She just kept on standing by her mother and didn't join other children.
ただ母親のそばに立ち続け、他の子どもたちに加わりませんでした。
The scene was the same as the last year's summer party.
その光景は、昨年の夏祭りと同じでした。
After the party, I asked her why she didn't dance.
祭りの後、私はなぜ踊らなかったのかを娘に聞きました。
She answered, "Because there were too many people."
彼女は「たくさん人がいたので」と答えました。
She was very shy.
彼女はとてもシャイなようです。

I Lost

Today, I was exhausted because my work was very hard as usual.
今日、私はいつものように仕事がきつかったので、疲れ果てていました。
After I came back home, my daughter, who is 2 years old, said, "Let's play with blocks. Please bring them."
私が家に帰った後、娘（2歳）が「ブロックで遊ぼう。持ってきて。」と言いました。
I answered, "I'm very tired. So I can't walk any more. Please bring them."
私は「とても疲れているから、もう歩けないよ。持ってきて。」と答えました。
Then, she said, "If you can't walk, you can crawl on your hands and knees."
すると、彼女は「歩けないなら、ハイハイできるよ。」と言いました。
I couldn't object to her argument any more.
私は、もう彼女の主張に反論できませんでした。

Pictures My Daughter Drew

A few days ago, my daughter drew a human face.
数日前、私の娘が人間の顔を描きました。
She had drawn it several times, but this time it was a little different from previous pictures.
彼女はそれを何回か描いていますが、今回は、今までのものと少し違っていました。
The difference was that she drew arms and legs for the first time.
その違いというのは、初めて腕と脚を描いたということです。
She could draw only lines at first.
最初、彼女は線だけを描くことができました。
She then was able to draw circles next.
次に、彼女は円が描けるようになりました。
She came to draw human faces about 4 month ago.
約4か月前、人の顔を描くようになりました。
And now, she can draw humans.
そして現在、彼女は人を描くことができます。
I feel that she is growing up.
我が子の成長を感じます。

I went to a photo studio with my family today.
私は今日、家族とともに写真スタジオへ行きました。
In Japan, we celebrate our children's growth when they become three, five or seven years old.
日本では、子どもが3歳、5歳、7歳になるとき、子どもの成長を祝います。
My daughter will become three years old soon, so we got professional photographers to take photographs of her.
私の娘はもうすぐ3歳になるので、プロの写真家に子どもの写真を撮ってもらいました。
The photographs they took were excellent.
彼らが撮った写真は、素晴らしかったです。
I like taking photographs and have a digital single-lens reflex camera, but the photographs I take cannot compare with the photographs they took.
私は写真を撮るのが好きで、デジタル一眼レフカメラを持っていますが、私が撮る写真は、彼らが撮る写真には敵いません。
I want to show you those photographs but I can't because I haven't received them yet.
私は、その写真を見せたいのですが、今日は受け取ることができなかったので、見せることができません。
Instead, I have put up a photograph I took on this entry.
その代わり、私が撮った写真を載せておきます。

Sunflowers

I went to a flower park with my friends today to take photographs of sunflowers.
今日、ヒマワリの写真を撮りに友達と花ひろばへ行きました。
According to the weather forecast, today was supposed to be rainy.
天気予報によると、今日は雨になるはずでした。
However, in fact, it was fine weather.
ところが、実際は良い天気でした。
This was the third time we went to take photographs of sunflowers.
ヒマワリの写真を撮りに行くのは、今回で3回目です。
We like taking photographs of sunflowers because they make a good contrast and look attractive.
ヒマワリは良いコントラストを作って映えるので、私たちはヒマワリの写真を撮るのが好きです。
This time, we could cut and take away 10 flowers per person.
今回、私たちは1人につき10本の花を切り取って、持ち帰ることができました。
So we cut some flowers and gave them to my daughter.
そこで、私たちは何本か花を切って、私の娘にあげました。
She was so cute when she held them in her arms.
彼女が花を抱いたとき、とても可愛かったです。

Lovely Wishes

Today is the 7th of July.
今日は7月7日です。
It is a special day when the Star Festival takes place.
Star Festivalが開催される特別な日です。
The festival is called 七夕(tanabata) in Japan.
日本では、七夕と呼ばれています。
Children in Japan write their wish on strips of fancy paper.
日本の子どもたちは、短冊に彼らの願いを書きます。
And these papers are fixed on bamboo grasses.
そして、それらの短冊を笹に飾り付けます。
My daughter wrote her wishes at a nursery.
私の娘も、託児所で願い事を書きました。
Of course, she can't write her wishes by herself, so her mother wrote instead of her.
もちろん、彼女は自分で願いを書くことができないので、母親が彼女に代わりに書きました。
I looked at her wishes.
私は彼女の願いを見ました。
Her wishes were "I want to get along well with my friends." and "I want Anpanman toys."
彼女の願いは「友達と仲良くできますように」と「アンパンマンのおもちゃが欲しい」でした。
These are lovely wishes.
かわいらしい願いです。

A Loud Noise

Recently, my daughter has been interested in playing with balloons.
最近、私の娘は風船で遊んでいます。
So I blew up a balloon for her.
それで、私は風船を膨らませました。
After I finished blowing it up, we started to play with the balloon.
吹き込み終わると、私たちはそのバルーンで遊び始めました。
Just then we heard a loud noise.
そのとき、私たちは大きな音を聞きました。
As you might've guessed, the balloon burst.
お察しの通り、風船が割れました。
Of course, I was surprised, but my daughter said, "I wasn't surprised at all."
もちろん、私は驚きましたが、娘は「ビックリしなかったよ。」と言いました。
She looked as if she enjoyed the loud noise.
彼女は、まるでその音を楽しんでいるように見えました。

A Memento?

Today is Father's Day in Japan.
日本では、今日は父の日です。
My daughter made a present for me at the day-care center.
私の娘が、託児所で私へのプレゼントを作ってくれました。
The paperwork of a clock on the photograph is that present.
写真にある時計の紙細工は、そのプレゼントです。
At first, I couldn't understand why the model is a clock, but my wife told me that June 10th is the time's anniversary in Japan.
最初、なぜ時計をモデルにしたのか分かりませんでしたが、妻が、6月10日が日本の「時の記念日」なのだと教えてくれました。
I think that the anniversary is not famous at all.
私は、その記念日が全く有名ではないと思います。
Truly, this is my first time hearing about this anniversary.
実際、私は初めてこの記念日を聞きました。
Of course, I was glad to receive it, but honestly, there was nothing related to Father's Day at all.
もちろん、私はそれをもらって嬉しかったです。しかし、正直なところ、父の日に関するものは何もありませんでした。
I mean that the present looked like a memento of the time's anniversary.
つまり、そのプレゼントは、「時の記念日」の記念品のように見えるのです。

My 30th Birthday

Today is my birthday but I had to work for 13 hours.
今日は私の誕生日なのですが、私は13時間も働かなければなりませんでした。
I forgot to request a holiday on my birthday.
私は誕生日に休みを申請するのを忘れました。
When I came back home, my daughter was already sleeping but my wife gave me a little letter.
私が家に帰ったとき、娘はすでに眠っていましたが、妻が小さな手紙をくれました。
She said, "This is from me and our daughter."
彼女は「これは、私と娘からです。」と言いました。
There was a picture of a human face drawn by my daughter.
娘が描いた人間の顔の絵がありました。
Of course, that human face is mine.
もちろん、その人間の顔は私です。
I'm very glad to receive the letter.
私はその手紙を受け取って、とても嬉しいです。
